Vanadium Effect on a Medium Carbon Forging Steel
In the present work the influence of vanadium on the hardenability and the bainitic transformation of a medium carbon steel is analyzed. While V in solid solution enhances the former, it hardly affects bainitic transformation. The results also reveal an unexpected result, an increase of the prior austenite grain size as the V content increases.
متن کاملForgeability Study of Medium Carbon Micro-Alloyed Forging Steel
Micro-alloyed steel components are used in automotive industry for the necessity to make the manufacturing process cycles shorter when compared to conventional steel by eliminating heat treatment cycles, so an important saving of costs and energy can be reached by reducing the number of operations. Microalloying elements like vanadium, niobium or titanium have been added to medium carbon steels...
متن کاملEffect of Microstructure and Notches on the Fracture Toughness of Medium Carbon Steel
Fracture toughness (K1C) of medium carbon steel (0.5% C) has been determined by round notched tensile specimen. Two notch diameters (5.6mm and 4.2mm) and three notch angles (α) namely 45, 60 and 75 have been used to observe the effect of notch diameters and notch angle on fracture toughness of the steel. By heat treatment the microstructure of the steel is also varied and its effect on the frac...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Hot Closed Die Forging of a Low Carbon Steel Coupled with Microstructure Evolution
Hot closed die forging is a regular process applied to manufacture metallic components used in supporting and fixing cable conductors in electric power transmission lines. In this forming process, the final microstructure of the workpiece depends on the control of several processing parameters. In this study, simulation of the industrial forging process of a ball hook component was performed us...
متن کاملEffect of Mean Stress on Low-Cycle Fatigue Strength of a Medium Carbon Steel S45C - True Stress-Controlled Cycling- by
Effect of Mean Stress on Low-Cycle Fatigue Strength of a Medium Carbon Steel S45C True Stress-Controlled Cyclingby Tatsuo ENDO*, Shoji HARADA*, Yoshihiro FUKUSHIMA* and Haruo SAKAMOTO** Nominal stress-controlled low-cycle fatigue life under imposed mean stress is affected by elongation or contraction due to cyclic stress-induced creep. Therefore, the effect of mean stress was examined by a micr...
